My areas of expertise are working with individuals who struggle with anxiety, loss of functioning due to a medical condition or injury, and have a history of toxic or abusive relationships. I work with clients who struggle with depression, anxiety, panic attacks, trauma post-traumatic stress disorder, chronic pain, grief and loss. I also work with older adults to support and prepare them for the later stage of life transitions.
In my work as a counsellor, I believe in collaborating with clients in a non-judgmental and inclusive manner. My hope is to provide a supportive and compassionate environment where clients feels safe discussing what is difficult or troubling in their life. Using a client centred strength based approach I aim to empower clients. I am passionate about exploring clients inner strengths and supporting them in creating new possibilities. I am dedicated to creating a mutually respectful relationship that allows clients to feel confident to make the change(s) they desire.
My practice focuses on empowering individuals through mind, body and heart connection within the counselling process. In my experience I have learned not everyone is comfortable talking about their feelings in talk therapy. I provide clients with the option of doing some body work where they can learn to create awareness in their body through basic yoga and mindfulness based breath exercises as an alternative way to express themselves. Studies show when the heart and/or mind are not settled or aligned this can lead to physical pain and other health related problems. I support clients in creating self-awareness through body work or talk therapy to help restore their mind, body and heart connection.
I believe counselling can be helpful to each one of us at some point(s) in our lives. At the same time, I acknowledge reaching out to make an appointment for counselling is not always easy. As a former client myself, I understand the fear and challenges associated with opening up to a stranger about personal issues. However, despite the initial and occasional discomfort of going for counselling the personal growth that comes from working through some of our challenges is the reason for why I am committed to creating a safe and supportive relationship with clients. My hope is the work we do together will give you the courage and strength to navigate through whatever challenge brought you in for counselling and support you to live the life you want!
